Our dear friend Paola Porreca came to town. We ate out a bunch and drank a bunch: hence the title of this blog. Paola's cousin Monica always starts a round of drinks by saying, "to new beginnings". It never got old over the weekend. Neither did ending every inappropriate sentence or saying with a, "that's what she said" ala Michael from The Office.

I don't know what it is about our dog, but he sure likes to get comfy with our guests. Cripes Mick!

The Logans came to town! Juice and Jack headed over to the Logan household in Lake Oswego so the boys could meet. Liam was born on December 21st (same day as our favorite gal Madeline). I made sure that Juice took along the camera to document this first "play date" of sorts.

The birthday girl posing with her special platter. We hosted an Iron Chef competition here on Saturday night. I totally stole the idea from some other clever UPS Loggers (and, yes, Natalie, I'm a total blogger stalker...thank your husband for the idea). The secret ingredient was "tomato". Kate and I joined together to make a bitchin' eggplant parmesan with a homemade tomato sauce and a salad with toasted pine nuts, gorganzola, tomatoes, bacon and a homemade dressing. Brett and Justin (the cheaters and the LOSERS) made grilled veal steaks and gazpacho. They spent more than $50, but tried to cover up their cheating asses. They worked real hard at this: picture two dudes realizing that they could lose becasue they spent too much...making their way back to the butcher to ask him to divy up the veal steaks into 2 separate packages, individually going through the check out line and then throwing away one of the receipts. Did they forget that I'm a nosey lady? Of course I was going to check out their receipt! They were so busted, but DAMN, their steaks and soup were tasty. We tried to sit and take tastes at the same time so we could savor our hard work. That lasted 2 seconds. We were hungry and it looked and tasted so good! I'm hooked with this idea. It was the best! Everyone was involved, had fun and ate well. Shouldn't every dinner party run like this?!

Damn Kate! You can toss my salad any day! O.k. that sounds gross...but doesn't Kate look darling?! It looks like she's growing right out of the salad bowl. You tiny, girl!

Once again, just when I think I've got the hang of things...I'm such a blogger re-re. I tried to rotate the picture, but I guess it still looks tasty. This is the CHEATERS platter: veal chops with grilled tomates and purple onions.

Super baby! Jack has taken a liking to flying above our heads. Mainly, I think he likes this because it gives him the opportunity to drip and drop major spit bombs onto our faces, shirts, etc.

Jack's first trip to the beach (Lincoln City) for Joy's 30th. It was short, but sweet and GREAT to get out of town.

This one didn't survive...

Mr. Nguyen--my most favorite Building Engineers of all time, helping us with the infamous Egg Drop. Long story short, the kids had to create a structure in which an egg could "lay" in and then be dropped from a high place. I would show you pictures of the kids, but I think that's illegal and I like my job too much.

It's official. I head back to work tomorrow--full time. I've suffered from just the slightest case of separation anxiety, and I know that September will be a time of adjustment. After listening to Michelle Obama talk tonight in Denver (holla at cha hometown) about the men and women who leave their families to head over to Iraq and serve our country without ever knowing when or if they'll come back...I think I can I handle eight hours a day.

Jack was the most amazing traveler! He slept through all flights and did especially well when we had to land in Amarillo, Texas to gas up because we couldn't land in Denver. Unfortunately, when he's old enough we'll have to tell him that the first city/town he ever traveled to was Amarillo. He also did especially well adjusting to two different time zones. We had a great time visiting in Denver. I got together with some friends from high school. We ended up sitting out on the D's deck until almost 1 in the morning. I bet the neighbors loved that. Bob's wedding was a major party...as I knew it would be. I knew the night would get a little rough when, for old time's sake, I had to take a shot of whiskey with my ol' drinkin' buddy. But, the funniest part (and I know this sounds mean) was when Mahlon McDuff accidentally punched a fellow wedding guest in the face while trying to get out to the dance floor. Glad it wasn't me! Oh, oh...and for those of you who watch as much T.V. as I do--you'll appreciate this. Holly from MTV's Road Rules Mexico (I think) the one with MAJOR eating disorder and running addiction was sitting at our table at the wedding. She was a major piece of work! I had a field day just watching her stew in her ego. But, of course, I couldn't admit that I recognized her because then I would be the lame-o! We also got to celebrate Kendall's 30th birthday! LoAnn put on a superb Sunday brunch in her beautiful back yard and recreated the meal from my bridal lunch that she had hosted almost four years ago. It was delish!

Minneapolis was great, but jeez is it humid out there! Jack got to meet his only living Great Grandparent, Ila Mae. She enjoyed showing him off at her retirement community.My cousin Amy graciously hosted all of us for dinner on Monday night. As per usual, I ate too much! She's a great chef! We got to spend time with Lynn and Mark and Keaghan. Keaghan had a magical affect on Jack...he could make him smile and calm down. It was so cute to see the cousins together. I got to see some of my dearest buddies from Fergus Falls...I hadn't seen them since I surprised them at their high school graduation in 1996. We're working on getting them out here next summer.

All in all, it was great to take a trip this summer but I certainly am happy to be back home again! Before you know it, school will be starting...

Seven Weeks and Smiling!

Look at that face! I've called several people over the past few weeks "the baby whisperer", but Kate and Rich Moehl take the cake! We had dinner with them last Saturday night and they were able to encourage the biggest smile I have ever seen on Jack's face.

*We're headed to Denver tomorrow to visit with the D's, attend Bob Thumel's wedding on Saturday (yes, for those of you who know Bob, he is ACTUALLY settling down and getting married) and help Kendall Ross celebrate her 30th birthday. We then part ways: Juice flies home and Nancy and I head on to Minneapolis to visit Great Grandma Dornfeld, see Jack's cousin Keaghan, Aunt Lynn and Uncle Mark for the very first time and spend time with our cousins Amy, Cameron, Allison and Lindsay. Jack and I will be back on August 1st. It's gonna be a big trip!

That's my cousin, Mike Zenk. He and his family are stationed over at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany. Mike is an Air Force nurse. He and the crew that he works with fly in to Afghanistan and Iraq and pick up wounded soldiers and bring them back to the hospital on the base in Germany. Check out the article up above that explains more of what he does on a typical day. I am so incredibly proud to call him my family!

Ok. One, I watch T.V. Quite a bit more than I should. I'm familiar with the daily run ads for Sunny Delight drinks and Neosporin MAINLY because they air right around the time I am feeding Jack. Two: I watch two channels...TLC and HGTV and I've got to think that I am part of their MAJOR demographic. So, with that being said...I have recently joined my friends in participating in Stroller Strides--a mom group that meets at local parks and works out with their kids (in strollers). It's been great, but each time I sit on the park bench after the workout to watch the kids play, I feel like I'm in that Sunny D or Neosporin ad. It's true! Jack's grandpas both, shall we say, have shiny domes. The best line, though, was one that another fellow bald friend shared with Rick Dornfeld. He told Rick that anytime someone gave him crap for his bald head, he was to tell that person that his bald spot/bald head was, "a solar panel for his sex machine". I want to laugh and say "GOO" (this translates to "gross" for those that you don't speak Robin yet) at the same time...it's about as bad/funny as Nancy talking about posting the kid's "junk" on the Internet. I freakin' love my family!

We had the pleasure of having dinner with our friends Joy and Mike over the weekend. We purposed dressed up Jack in his Cubs uniform for Mike who is a Cubs fan, maybe by default since he grew up in Chicago. Nevertheless, it turned out that Ellie had a Cubs cheerleader uniform and they promptly put it on her so we could take this fantastic pic.

Alright...I'm not trying to jinx our good luck here, but Mr. Jack has slept through the night for the last three days. I'm elated! I'm starting to feel like myself again. I might actually cook dinner tonight or wash some clothes. Oh, who's joking? I haven't made a meal in months and have become totally addicted to the pre-marinated/ready to cook meat selections at New Seasons market.

I would also like to add that my child is already more advanced than his father. It took Juice six weeks until he started to sleep through the night and it took Jack ONLY 5 1/2 weeks.

...So Jack's got that going for him...which is nice...(Caddyshack, anyone?)

Uncle Ian got married yesterday to Courtney Stewart. The ceremony took place at Foothills park in Lake Oswego along the Williamette River and the reception was at Oswego Lake Country Club. I behaved myself (a first!) at this wedding and got Jack home in time to take a bath. Ah, parenthood. Weddings will never quite be the same...

Almost six months to the day that I had my ultrasound, Juice and I were back, with Nancy, at Emanuel Hospital so Jack could get an ultrasound. This was not fun. Apparently, my kid is a little piggy and sucks down his food too fast. But, before we could decipher that, his doc decided that we should go through a semi-routine ultrasound just to make sure that Jack wasn't suffering from Pyloric Stenosis. Go ahead. Google it. I won't even try to explain it. Jack, thankfully, does not have it and we're back to happy baby land here at Chez Lindsey.

This job is tough. There. I've said it. I, Robin, here do undeniably state that I have no idea what I'm doing. Just when I thought I would never sleep, eat, or smile at my husband again, Nancy came in to save the day (thanks to Dad who charges all of his business dealings on his Frontier Airlines card). Mom flew out here, at last minute, for about $5! Yahtzee! Ever since she stepped in the door last Friday, Jack has set new P.R.s--sleeping from 11:30 to 4:30 the first night, then the second night and continuing on until last night where he slept from 11:30 until 6 this morning. I AM a happy woman!

He's here! He's here! I will give you a quick update and then will have to post pictures later. After pushing for 4 hours, Mr. Big Head had to be delivered via emergency C-section. It was scary and I couldn't have done it without Justin's love and strength. I absolutely LOVE my husband. We all knew this already, but he is amazing!

Johnathan Hawthorne Lindsey was born on June 1st at 1:44 in the morning. He weighed 8 lbs 1 oz and is 19.75 inches long. We are calling him Jack, but will give him the option to go by Hawk if he likes. Many of you know that we considered naming him Hawthorne and calling him Hawk from all along, but Hawthorne just seemed like a middle name to us. I have only been home for 5 hours, so pics will come along soon!

Went to the doc. She's inducing me on Saturday. Definitely having my pity party, but I'm trying to stay focused and positive. The D's are still here and the Salisbury's flew out this morning. We'll do our last minute runs to Target, Home Goods and Pottery Barn Kids just for good measure and then we'll check in to Labor and Delivery on Saturday morning at 7 a.m. I'll have Juice call or text when this kid finally enters the world! Ladies and gentlemen...I would like to introduce you to the bus driver from "South Park". This is what I look like right now. The only difference is that my hair is sans bird...

My due date is Friday. My family comes into town Wednesday and Thursday...and I'm feeling some pressure (totally created in my own little head) to deliver a baby while they're all here. Of course, they all know that he could come late and are very supportive just to hang out with me and my pregnant ass. But, wouldn't it be grand to have a new baby to coo at and faun over?

I know how ridiculous I sound. Even while typing these words I'm pondering over making the Castor Oil shake recipe...I just saw a woman on "The Baby Story" make it and she went into labor. But, she was an Earth Mama with a midwife and let's face it, as liberal and rule-breaking as I think I am, I'm really a rule following, law abiding, "let's wait to see what the doctor says" kind of gal.

I did, however, schedule my foot rub at the Barefoot Sage Spa for Wednesday morning. I asked for the exact same person and treatment that my friend worked with and received last week. I am such a rebel!

Went to the doctor today. My blood pressure is good and the baby is progressing nicely--hooray!No change in dilation--boo! The baby could come close to his due date--hooray! They have scheduled an induction for me on the 31st just in case he's late--boo!

Yes...that is me up above! My sister took these for a photography class when, I think, she was in junior high. I think I'm 4 in the picture and I'm trying to relay happiness and frustration. Can you tell? I thought the pics paired nicely with my happy/crabby feelings today.

My kids threw me a baby shower on Friday. It was pretty cute. The kids decorated onesies that said such precious things as "Ladies Man" and "My mom's a whale". I'm not joking! A while back, one of my students had to present a current event and to get the audience's attention he started his speech about an orca stuck along the Oregon coast by saying and pointing in my general direction "Look! A Whale!". I promptly stopped the student and asked, "are you calling your pregnant teacher a whale?" The whole class burst in laughter, I about peed my pants and the speaker started crying and ran out of the room. It was brilliant! I know that I shouldn't laugh about making one of my students cry, but I'm that kind of teacher...

We played "Guess Mrs. Lindsey's circumference". That was a ton of fun. I had a few usual suspects that yelled out "100 inches" and others, that I assume wanted to earn an A that said, "oh, she's probably only about 3o inches". The big winner was 44.5!!!! I was told by my mom that that was not too big, but Jesus! That's a hell of a waist size. I guess nothing is sacred at this point, but I'll spare you my other measurements. And, no, they were not taken in front of my class...

Today was my first day off and I did not even check my work email until 11:30. That's a new P.R. Good thing I checked because my sub was trying to get a hold of me. Apparently, I did not leave as thorough of notes as I had thought. I'm starting to relinquish some control in that department so I can be good and strong for my next opportunity where I get to play "control freak"... in the mom department. We head to the doc tomorrow hopeful to hear if I'm dilated any more than last week. As of last Monday, I was at 1. I ate some spicy food over the weekend and was really tempted to drink some tonic water, but I withheld from doing so. I've been told there's a place here in Portland where preggos go to get their feet rubbed and have given birth within hours of the spa treatment. I'm game! Barefoot Sage Spa, here I come!!

It is official. I am signing off from work on May 9th! God, does it feel good!

I am tired. I am tired of the whining from 10, 11 and 12 year olds. I am tired of the continuous "who swallowed a basketball/penguin waddler" jokes from my truly beloved colleagues and I am tired of walking up and down a half mile hall every time I have to go to the bathroom--which is ALL the time!

My line, up until now has been, "all I've got is my hair and my cute shoes"--(I stole this from Kate). Ladies and Gents...I can't tell you the last time I actually did my hair or wore a pair of cute shoes. Is this a hint for what may lie ahead?

I was talking with my Pop about a week ago. Rick doesn't tell me my business (o.k. maybe a little sometimes--he is a registered Republican, after all) or ask me for much, but he mentioned that he thought it would be a good idea if I took off from work a tad early. I had to listen. Pop is not a man that suffers from "diarrhea of the mouth" (I must have inherited that from somewhere else...or created that "trait" all on my own.) We visited with LeVanda on Friday. She agreed with what Pop said and actually wrote out a script that states that I will be disabled, come May 9th (38 weeks). Now if I could just get her to write me a prescription for a Spa Week in Arizona...or Hawaii...or Paris...or...

I know, I know...I'm being tough on myself...but, dear GOD, I feel like a laz-y-boy. And look at all of my gorgeous friends and family members! Can you blame me for feeling like a cow?! Ah, retirement and travel. The D's met up with George and Ann Mathison...good ol' friends from F.F. It's hard to tell that these fine lookin' individuals are actually grandparents.

I can tell you, however, that the columns behind my parents could either be: dorian,ionic, or corithian. Hooray! My art history degree is finally paying off!

It could be a senior citizen thing...however, I love how they have remembered to hide their "cheater" glasses (bifocals to us young folks). Alright, enough old age jokes aside. Rick and Nancy headed to Grand Cayman for a couple of weeks in January. They stayed on Seven Mile Beach, but I'm told that it is also called Six Mile. Hmmm..who's counting.

Anyhoo--here is proof that if you supply the right kind of beach, sunshine and easy to use snorkeling gear that you CAN get Nancy out into the water. Check out dad's guns in the stingray pic! Apparently, rays are very docile creatures yet weigh a hefty 80 some pounds--this explains "Cajun Joe" or I mean "Caymanian Joe" helping out dad in the picture. Doesn't Joe look like he's been rode hard and put away wet?! And to think, he's only 21. Kidding...

Here's a mini tour of our house. The flowers are in bloom, the grass is green and the lawn has been mowed--thanks Jose! I spared sharing pictures of the bedrooms because, let's face it...it's Spring Break and I haven't made my bed all week. Notice Grandma Dornfeld's furniture in the living room...the cushions are up so Mick won't jump on them. The location of the couches are too perfect for a big, brown dog to scope out the neighborhood through the front window. And, as some of you know, Mick's job is to protect our house from, "dinosaurs and the French". Don't ask me what that means...it's just what Justin tells the dog to do every time we leave the house.

This was taken in December. The other pic is of Carrie and the fatty, Mick. Carrie, god bless her, came up from Eugene and kept me occupied while Juice is down in Corona Del Mar celebrating Ian Lindsey's last days of bachelorhood. I am new at this blogging thing, so I apologize, in advance, for all the mistakes I will be making. I will be posting a lot this weekend to, like I said, get everyone caught up and then I hope to tone down a bit. This could become an unhealthy addiction.
